PLAY wins the Beyond Sport Awards 2014

Since 2009, Beyond Sport trophies have been awarded annually to the best international projects that promote the use of sport as a positive vehicle for social change. Among the 350 pre-selected projects, PLAY International is rewarded for its Sport4Youth programme in Kosovo in the category of "sport as conflict resolution".

The Sport4Youth project is being deployed in Kosovo to promote cohabitation between the different communities. This initiative is based on the active involvement of young leaders from 12 localities across the country.

Using sport as a lever for gathering and social engagement, the Sport4Youth programme has three objectives: to develop inter-ethnic dialogue, to strengthen the capacities and civic engagement of young people, to offer sports activities and to promote child tolerance. 

In 2013, the 70 volunteers from 6 communities (Albanian, Ashkali, Serbian, Roma, Bosniac and Turkish) organized more than 300 socio-educational activities. Nearly 11,000 children benefited from these activities, more than 35% of them girls. As a result of this project, 93% of volunteers have forged links with young people from other communities and now have a more positive view of other communities.
